Why bodywork is good for business

Researchers have tested short chair massage at work. Here's what a few of those studies found. They're small studies, and every team is different.

1. Calmer and more alert. In one study, adults who had a 15-minute chair massage twice a week for five weeks felt less anxious afterward than people who simply rested in the chair. They also finished math problems faster and with fewer mistakes, and only the massage group's job-stress scores went down.¹

2. Less stress on busy shifts. At Mayo Clinic, 38 nurses had a 15-minute chair massage once a week during work hours for 10 weeks. Their stress and anxiety scores were lower at the end.²

3. Less tension in the neck and shoulders. Hospital staff who had eight weekly 15-minute neck and shoulder massages at work reported less pain and tension and a better mood than staff who sat and rested. Many said the relief lasted a day or longer.³

4. Fewer aches getting in the way. In a study of 60 oncology nursing staff, two 15-minute chair massages a week for three weeks lowered stress. Staff also said pain got in the way of their work, sleep and mood less than before.⁴

FAQ

What's the difference between chair and table massage?

In chair massage, guests sit fully clothed in a padded massage chair, and the work focuses on the back, neck, shoulders and arms. Table massage is a regular massage on a table with oil, so it needs a private space.

How much does an event cost?

Sessions cost the same as at the spa: $210 an hour, or $315 for 90 minutes. There's a 3-hour minimum, so an event starts at $630 plus the travel fee: $75 within Ojai, $100 to Ventura or Santa Paula, or $125 to Santa Barbara.

Is the travel fee ever waived?

No. One travel fee applies to every visit, no matter how many people book.

What do I need to provide?

A quiet spot with room for a chair or a table. Tell us about the space when you call, and Kali will let you know what works.

How do I book, change or cancel?

Call or text 805-256-2690 with your date, location and number of guests. Please give 48 hours' notice to change or cancel.
